I left Nice, France on Saturday the 19th of may and took a first plane
to Frankfurt and a second one to Houston, where I spent the night at
Homewood Suites Intercontinental. This morning, I took another plane to
Managua and after a one hour ride, finally arrived in Granada,
Nicaragua. First impressions: Even though the difference between our
developed countries and Nicaragua is somewhat chocking at first, the
country seems beautiful and full of hidden treasures to explore and the
people are very welcoming.

Hostal Mochilas |
After leaving our bags at the hostal "mochilas", we started exploring Granada and got our first meal, caprese paninis and guava juice at "Nectar", a bright-colored little restaurant on main street. There, we made our first mistake as tourists and forgot to take into account the tax which, thanks to our kind waiter didn't end up being an issue. We then walked around some more and got a good look at the typical homes of Granada. People sitting in swinging chairs outside observed us while we passed by. Also, something we don't encounter often in the US or in Europe: wild dogs and horses casually walk on the streets as well as herds of cows.

We then got back to the hostal where after a little while, the rest of the group arrived. After exploring the city some more and relaxing a bit at the hostal we all went out to eat pizza at "tele pizza", a restaurant full of people and loud western music. The walls were covered with music posters ranging from elvis presley to the beatles. A very interesting place to be. We finally got back to the hostal for a well deserved cold shower and a good night of sleep. Tomorrow we'll meet our homestay families and start taking Spanish classes. It is with great excitement and exhaustion that I now go to bed.
