Day 4: Encender un puro...

Mombacho, Cigars of Nicaragua
Today, Spanish classes continued and our group had its first "class trip" to one of the local cigar  factories "Mombacho, Cigars of Nicaragua". We got a tour of the factory and our tour guide explained to us how cigars are made. From the plant to the final cigars a series of well-learned procedures and techniques performed by the workers, assures for the quality of the final merchandise. Here are some pics from the trip!

In the afternoon, we discussed the difference between relief and development work as well as the importance of combining short-term actions with a long-term plan. The articles we read and the discussion that followed emphasized the value of empowering communities to be self-sustainable rather than just handing out products.  Like the Chinese proverb says "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." We will put all our efforts into truly incorporating this ideology into our work throughout the next seven weeks.
